The idea of creating such a library was expressed by the editor of the “Youth” magazine, Belarusian poetess Raisa Borovikova. The main aim is to collect in one copy books of famous Belarusian writers and those, who touched to literature activity at least with one book. The realization of the project seemed to be very interesting for the members of Philology and Methodic of Teaching Department and librarians of our University.

Common ideas turned into the text of an Agreement, which was signed by the director of desktop publishing establishment “Literature and art” A.N. Karlyukevich and the first vice rector of Baranovichi State University G.Y. Zhitkevich. The aim of the Agreement is to unite the efforts in the creation of “Library of one book”. The University is engaged into collecting more books, saving its funds, giving information about the meetings with literature connected people. Desktop publishing establishment “Literature and art”, in its turn, will provide us with the books, which are published at the publishing house with authors' autographs, help to organize different arrangements, send their colleagues to Baranovichi in order to give us an opportunity to communicate with them.

“Library of one book” numbers 300 copies of printed matter stock including the works of Belarusian authors from the library fund of the University. We are going to apply to the funds of the libraries of our region – there it is possible to find rare and interesting editions, not demanded by the readers and periodically thrown out as spoilage. We address to the University students, “Probably, in your home libraries there are books of less-known Belarusian writers. In the fund of “Library of one book” they will find their second life.

The aim of the University library is not only to gather as many books as possible, but to make famous the names of our man of letters, because many of them are forgotten in the course of time, and it is impossible to find their works anywhere. The librarians are sure that our readers need not only textbooks. Through the idea of the creation “Library of one book” we shall acquaint the students with belles-lettres and the authors of many books.

The fund is located in the department of social and humanitarian science and it is available for readers.

We hope that in the course of time, besides books, we will have manuscripts, letters and pictures. This will be the beginning of a unique museum, where it will be possible to become acquainted with literary values of our country.
